Then I go fix it.

I wore out that key on my computer. Betweeen IRC and Java, it didn’t last long.

Notoriously simple industry. Anyone can do it really.

It is important to understand what Vehicular Cycling is and how it has entrenched carbrained infrastructure. https://discuss.tchncs.de/comment/28614295

That’s also part of the Vehicular Cycling/Forester problem. Forester, distilled and paraphrased, was a proponent of “serious” cyclists, which included the MAML (Middle-Aged Man in Lycra) on racing bikes and excluded the person picking up groceries on a bike with baskets. Which summs up to “cycling is for recreation”. And visibly, the aggressive cyclists tend towards that MAML image, rather than dad picking up groceries or mom cycling to work.

Tl;DW/R: pretending bikes are cars and claiming bike lanes are dangerous.

Vehicular cycling advocates have set cycling back decades in USA, with the result being posts like these.
A car or a bicycle travelling at 30% of the speed of traffic introduces a considerable risk. It’s why bike lanes aren’t also sidewalks. But it’s not a reason for vehicular homicide!

Disabling 8.3 filename creation has been a recommendation in the Best Practices Analyser since Server 2008. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/ff633453(v=ws.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN
I had a GPO to disable it corp wide back then and didn’t have any reports of issues.

The companies who sell these bypass devices spend time on graphene too, don’t worry.
The price of iOS exploits would suggest Apple’s doing a pretty good job in this area.

Too many businesses are forgoing the (fairly trivial) cost of a domain and website and setting up Facebook instead.
One bad decision and you’ve lost the customer facing presence.

I see it as an extension of the PC combined with the Internet and hardware advances. It certainly changed the Internet and our society. But I’ll leave it to historians to fight over!

Also many of the skills for building your private cloud have been forgotten or retired because Amazon and azure.

The Internet was a slow burn starting in the 1960s and gaining momentum through one of humanity’s most productive generations into the 80s and beyond, spurred on by personal computing. Mobile was a (retrospectively) natural continuation.
LLMs have been around for a very long time but they’re just forcing the issue with a product that’s not yet compelling enough to justify its enormous cost. It’s like waiting for the iPhone and the App Store to make smartphones ubiquitous.

There’s a number of things that I strongly believe should result in an automatic short term suspension, because the driver clearly has no fucking clue what they’re doing. Driving without lights lights off at night (I don’t give a shit about your auto lights, turn them on manually because it’s not working) and driving with folded mirrors are two of the items. Failing to clear snow off glass is another.
Driving with two earphones in is a problem. They simply do a better job of blocking ambient sound than the car speakers. People get mad ad pedestrians or cyclists who don’t hav situational awareness because of their headphones; drivers have a greater responsibility because of the size of their vehicle.

“Look how low our cost of inference is”
“Pay no attention to the marketing budget that exceeds Coca-Cola’s for a small fraction of their revenues”
What technical, fundamental reason is there for the crash in price? The article just accepts the MSRP as fact. It’s established fact that retail prices can be dropped below cost in order to establish market dominance. The cost of training can indeed be spread over time but it’s not spread across enough time (between model releases)The inference cost doesn’t actually drop in reality.
Built to spec does do a lot of heavy lifting. American distances are larger than European distances. China has the advantage of a dictatorship which can be decisive.
But the Interstate system was expensive and had a crazy spec and was built and continues to be maintained at an extremely high cost.
Last I heard, maglev is mostly vaporware. Just build good tracks.

I’ve seen firefighters just push the car out of the way or break windows. Why not this time? Smash the window out, open the door, hook hose up.
Backups? In this economy?
But I need to get something working. I am about to move to VaultWarden and that makes me very nervous.
