Getting sick did give me an excuse to double down on lazing around and going ham with the game but yeah, I can imagine living a proper “adult” lifestyle would make this more of a challenge.

I think some of my love for it has to do with the fact there aren’t many alternatives that would support my kind of playthrough. Skyrim has a huge modding scene but it’s fantasy, plus I never really managed to get into its version of the setting. GTA V has pre-made characters in solo and kinda crappy character customisation and limited peaceful gameplay in multiplayer (not to mention blocking linux players outside of private sessions). There are Five M servers but many require Discord use and I’ve read about issues with playing it on linux. Lastly, there’s Saints Row 2 but that has a pretty limited mod scene as well.

Cyberpunk is the perfect mix of modern(ish) setting, gameplay which allows for more immersive approach and big enough mod library to get me hooked. Still, it IS a fun combo.

Yeah, between a full time job and having a family of my own, especially since my little one is only a year old, I’m lucky to get 1-2 hours in a week, and many weeks I won’t even have time to play at all. I might go a month or two without touching a game.

That’s fair. I’m more into medieval fantasy games, so I mostly play Elder Scrolls, SoulsBorne, etc games. But I do love other genres too, just not as much.

Well, you win some, you lose some. I can only imagine how fulfilling having a kid can be (or at least seems to be based on watching my friends). Besides, kids grow up fast - you’ll have plenty of time for games before you know it.

While I prefer modern/light sci-fi settings, I don’t really mind fantasy in general. I just don’t really vibe with Skyrim specifically and, unfortunately for me, it has the biggest mod scene within the series so it’s much easier to find mods I like compared to older titles.

Very true. The first year has been incredibly fulfilling, I can only imagine how it’ll continue to feel as the years go on. My nephew is 5 years old, and my father-in-law recently said to my sister-in-law that if her son moves out at 20, she’s now 25% done. That’s kind of nuts to me, I never really thought of it that way before.

Totally fair. Not every game will be for everyone, I think Skyrim hit me in a time where I had lots of free time to play games, and it was also around the time I moved from my childhood home (not too far away but just far enough to be inconvenient to see friends on a regular basis) so I spent a lot more time playing single player games. I now have over 5k hours in the game, so it’s sort of become a comfort game now. But if I didn’t have that experience with it first, I could see how coming to it now wouldn’t do much for me. I actually prefer Oblivion to it these days, and I’m constantly trying to get into Morrowind too because I’m confident I’d love it. I have some time today, maybe I’ll boot up Morrowind again.

TES is a weird series for me since I started on the Gothic side of things. By the time I gave TES games a try there was always something blocking me from enjoying them in full. Not that any of them are bad, they just didn’t shape my tastes like other games did.

I actually started writing a full post going in detail about all of the titles I played but the truth is all I want is a modern Daggerfall with a big modding scene. That would be my dream come true in terms of sandbox fantasy RPGs.

That sounds familiar, I feel like we’ve talked about this before. I’m pretty sure you got me to try Daggerfall Unity. Someone on here definitely did.

For what it’s worth, I played a bit of Morrowind today using OpenMW and had a ton of fun with it. I really hope this time it sticks for more than a week.

Yup, I believe that was me. I mentioned modding and playing DU in the past. It was a pretty fun experience, even if somewhat simple/limited due to game’s age and mechanics. Seriously though, that approach with Skyrim’s range of mods would be a sight to behold.

Good luck with Morrowind. I tried it before (without OpenMW) and it left me traumatised due to crashes so I can’t say I ever gave it a proper try it deserves. Your setup should be way more stable so I hope it works out!
