The city of Toronto installed some bike lanes which removed some lanes for cars. The province of Ontario is now uninstalling some bike lanes to bring them back for cars. The stated reason is to improve traffic flow for the chronically gridlocked Toronto city core.
Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said in a Sept. 1 news release that the government is committed to tackling traffic congestion.
“Our government was given a clear and direct mandate by the people of Ontario to fight gridlock, including by restoring motor vehicle lanes that are needed to keep drivers moving. We’re keeping our promise," Sarkaria said.
Removing other ways of transportation isn’t going to lessen congestion, it just adds more cars.
“When you sow streets you reap traffic.”
Yep. Induced traffic is the scientific term for this, and it’s been proven for decades.
Just one more lane. That will fix it this time.
If you say you are “tackling congestion” and then you remove alternative transport to cars, you have been bought by car manufacturers.
Fuck Doug Ford
This is about what I would expect from a man who loved Trump until the consequences arrived.
Is this Ontario vs Toronto? More than carbrain vs logic?
It’s Doug Ford vs Toronto, he’s had a vendetta against the city ever since his addict brother died of ass cancer
Each bike turn into a car and gets worse
It’d be a terrible shame if the street were to suddenly have to undergo repairs forcing them to close a lane to car traffic but somehow left open enough for bikes…
