This project is awesome. I love me some tetris, and most of the time I am content with playing the NES version. But it doesn’t have the QOL features tetris’ new entries have added over the years. I play on my phone, so I could download the official Tetris app, but it is sadly infested with ads and microtransactions and I’m not withstanding all that to clear some lines on the go. Enter Apotris, a tetris “clone” with all the niceties of modern tetris, and fully open source! It has features like block preview, hold mechanic, extendable list of queued blocks, and a variety of skins so you choose the one you feel sits right with you! Not only that, the gameplay is buttery smooth and I love how they added a little rumble animation that is pretty satisfying to see. I use the gba version with an emulator, but it is also supported across multiple platforms. It really comes off a game made with lots of care and love put into it. So, if you ever get the itch to play some tetris, give Apotris try!
Edit: Here’s the link to apotris’ official site https://akouzoukos.com/apotris
This is probably my favorite Tetris clone. I just loaded up my new GBA emulator with a ton of stuff to play and I go right back to it…
Downloaded this for my Analogue pocket. I LOVE IT.
I’m eating good tonight thanks !!
If someone wants to play on PC here’s the definitive way imo:
JFC the intrusive ads!
I wish I had read this better. I installed the desktop client I am kind of paranoid now
Tetr.io is an awesome way to play if you prefer playing on a physical keyboard. I do wish it had a mobile client
Aw no mobile version?
GBA version on emulator works.
Yeah I was wondering that too. Their source code page (https://gitea.com/akouzoukos/apotris) does list instructions on building for Android yet they do not publish an Android build there or on F-Droid. Maybe it’s still a work-in-progress, unclear if their source will actually compile a playable Android game but someone could give it a shot & let us know how it goes :D
I also wonder if the controls would work right on an Android device without keyboard/mouse/controller.
In the meantime Block Drop is a decent open source Tetris clone on Android, also on F-Droid (https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.blockdrop.game/)… this one is more old school simple Tetris action, Apotris looks like it’s aiming for newer style Tetris.
Hey I actually gave it a try and I could compile it for android!

It even has a battery indicator lol, pretty awesome!
I used to play Techmino on Android, but haven’t for a while and see they haven’t released an update in quite some time…
What update does a tetris clone need?
Since it is on Android simply compatibility with newer Android versions. They also added in lots of different ways to play Tetris, customization options for how it looks.
Facebook login? 🤷
