It’s a very good collectathon but I had more fun doing it alongside RetroAchevements. One advantage was the comments on the specific mini games helped because there was sometimes a trick to it (one was literally unplayable on my version, you had to abuse pause to win).
Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I’ll help us get a few more niche communities back?

I’m glad someone mentioned survivorship bias. I used to do a fun little “True Random” roulette with some rom packs I had (basically every game ever made prior to PS2) and a vast majority were pretty awful. The challenge we had was to play at least 30 minutes, but that was so rough sometimes.

8·5 days agoOh yeah, our elementary school was doing that event though we already walked to school. It’s weird how car centric people are even on that day. Not a single house is more than a 15 minute walk to the school but there’s always a chaotic mess of cars in front every morning.
They’re always the worst kind of people, too. Honking and doing illegal things and only maybe 20% have car seats for their kids. We always gotta be as careful as possible, but at least it’s just the streets immediately around the school; the rest of the walk is lovely, albeit with tons of mosquitoes lately.

1·20 days agoHonestly seems more of a critique of grind culture we’ve got in the US. Used to be you had time in the morning or afternoon to enjoy a cafe but now you’ve got a job you can’t afford to quit in a town you can’t afford to live in and need to drive an hour to get there with gas you can’t afford… that last part because there are no trains anymore, too.
Yeah, halfway through that, I admit it’s also still bullshit car culture nonsense, too. Lol

I think of those things as additional challenges, but it kind of depends on the game. RTS, Dune 2 definitely hasn’t aged well compared to Starcraft, for instance. To be fair, Dune 2 is like the first major RTS, though. Lol
But that’s partly what I meant by my post, True Random time with my friends is more of a “suffering is content” moment, haha. Playing an FPS with tank controls is infuriating!
I’m personally looking forward to RetroAchevements adding support for MSDOS sometime in the next year, though, because I like the challenge of jank ass games. I’ll probably play Dune 2, after I finish all Heroes of Might and Magic 1 and 2, haha.
