When biking on the road or walking near I try not to think too much about how I could be obliterated in a moment by an inattentive or malicious driver. I remember several years ago a couple was walking their dog on the sidewalk on the other side of my city, I believe the sidewalk was offset from the road even, but a car hopped the curb and ended up killing the couple.
City planning should really be more hostile towards cars
I think sometimes about how i trust strangers not to push me off the sidewalk into 40 mph+ traffic… It is crazy how close we are to death in urban spaces
I always stay far from the subway tracks for this reason. Might be an irrational fear but I’m more confortable like this and it’s not like it prevents me from getting on the train when it arrives.
