OpenAI wants parents to trust ChatGPT with teenagers, but apparently not enough to tell them when those teenagers spend an hour discussing suicide, self harm or eating disorders. Calling that »safety« feels generous. It sounds more like OpenAI outsourced the risk to kids and the responsibility to parents.

They both outsourced the safety to each other, meaning there isn’t any, and meanwhile the kids obviously are needing to talk to someone about their problems, left with something that is a huge risk for trusting at all.

OpenAI needs more user data, period. Only reason they would try this.

Ineffably magnificent children, the pure miracles… us, human… should learn from human and stay always social with human, I believe.
They should learn from their parents and other children…
Children should learn experience in human-felt way…

That’s why schools exist, to learn to live with each other in balance. To learn from mistakes of others, to make mistakes, and develop together for a bright and self-sufficient future…

            Let’s check the following:

Virtually all social systems are open systems; that is, they are not only influenced by their environments, but also are dependent upon them. Organizations such as schools are opensocial systems. They take inputs from their environment (resources) and transform those inputs into outputs (products of various kinds)…

Feedback loops supply information back to the transformation process so that the process can be evaluated and adjusted…

The school social system has five basic internal elements - structure, individuals, culture, politics, and the teaching and learning core. These system elements interact and transform inputs into outputs…

Social-systems theory is useful in describing the recurring structures and dynamic processes in educational organizations.

Friendships can positively impact students’ academic performance and grade point average (GPA) by providing emotional support and reducing stress, thereby leading to improved focus and better concentration on studies.

Peer connections and friendships often result in collaborative learning and the exchange of academic ideas, improving comprehension and retention of course materials, ultimately leading to higher GPAs…

Academic success is assessed by gauging academic performance in the form of grade point average (GPA), test scores, and overall academic achievement, as well as the measurement of academic motivation and the level of persistence among students in school or college.

Forming friendships with their peers is an important aspect of adolescents’ and young adults’ lives, and significant research has been conducted on how friends impact academic performance and motivation. Specifically, academic achievement and motivation have been found to positively correlate with belonging to a peer group.

Currently, young people’s need for a sense of community is particularly high, leading individuals to spend more time with their friends, feel more comfortable around friends than they do with family, and worry about how their friends will perceive them and how the local social milieu will view them.

Researchers’ concerns about how social networking sites affect different aspects of life, including education, are not surprising. Academic achievement has been linked favorably to social connections or peer interactions in the past.

none of that explains why schools exist in the first place. It’s kind of a terrible way to go a out it, with lots of trauma especially for certein subgroups

Many decades ago, there were toys sold for the TV show Battlestar Galactica, and you could buy a viper or Cylon raider, each which could shoot little red plastic “laser” spring loaded projectiles.

I remember seeing a story on the news about some kid who died playing with the toys, because he and his friends were shooting themselves in the mouth, and he choked to death on it.

The net result of this was the toy being recalled, and a lamer, safe version where the little red projectiles could be popped into the loaded position, and firing would cause little red “projectiles” to extend to the “fired” position, never detaching from the ship.

Anyhoo, I understand that people have died and gone on shooting rampages after using ChatGPT. Surely they will reign things in with greater care than a toy company in the late 70s early 80s did for one death.
