Something I found interesting that deserved a write-up this morning is the blog post from LibreOffice / The Document Foundation on no AI being a feature.
There is always a good argument for symplicity and AI is not simple and has uncertain security.
Similar thing with IDEs and editors when coding. I have always prefered an editor except when the IDE does exactly what I want which is often not the case.
AI definitely loves to over-engineer things but I’ve had lots of success with the latest models just telling them not to. Also I do simplification passes afterwards telling them to find anything that can be simplified or YAGNI.
I guess the tend to over-engineer is probably because the benchmarks don’t care about simplicity and maintainability? Who knows.
