The real resident evil is the AI slop we made along the way
God fucking damnit.
That sucks. RE engine was basically the only modern AAA engine that was both performant and good-looking. I guess it won’t be for much longer.
Didn’t know this but I did just buy Requiem and was impressed how good it worked and how well it performed on my steam deck.
Northlight is pretty good, but I guess it’s maybe not as optimised.
source 2.
Source is great as well.
Hmm… I never heard of it. What games/studios use it?
It’s Remedy’s engine.
Oh nice. I remember pirating Alan Wake 2 (because they didn’t sell it on Steam). It was a great game, but it ran kinda terribly in my experience though :/
“Accelerate efficiency”, i.e. make things cheaper, not make things better. I fully expect more bugs to filter through as a result.
I mean 9x increase in bugs for a 10x decrease in QA cost is an increase in efficiency.
Hell, fire the whole department and unlock infinite efficiency.
I guess they could only be on a winning streak for so long before blowing off their own foot…
Can’t wait for the game engine to delete my filesystem and then be really very sorry about it.
Algorithms/Unit Tests ❌
AI ✅
AI can mean so many things. Like I’ve seen research couple of years ago where they used Machine Learning to let the computer control a player character to find holes in the level colliders or to find the fastest route. Like the AI found glitches to skip parts of the level. Basically the end goal of the research was to train an AI with Machine Learning so it could play the game 24/7 for days with thousands of agents that would take an QA team hundreds of people for weeks. There is a reason why bugs are often found at release, because a million players will of course find bugs quicker than a thousand QA testers. Ai could maybe replicate a million players, sure not perfectly but it will probably find bugs that the QA team missed.
no thank you. the steam demos shows capcom makes the worst selection of annoying protagonists. making it somehow worse with AI seems hardly necessary. hard pass.
